LoreDrop privacy: where lecture audio and study notes go
Understand local speech, optional cloud transcription, saved audio, AI note generation and account synchronization.
LoreDrop has several data flows. Local transcription does not mean the entire study workflow stays on your device. Choose the mode based on which material you are comfortable sending and storing.
Local speech
The browser downloads a speech model and processes captured audio on the device. Without optional source saving, the raw audio is not uploaded for LoreDrop’s private playback storage. Keep the capture tab open until its pending segments finish.
Optional API transcription and browser dictation
The OpenAI capture option sends audio segments to OpenAI for transcription. Browser dictation uses the browser’s speech service, whose processing behavior depends on the browser. These are different modes; do not assume they have identical data handling.
Notes, tutoring and saved sources
Generating notes sends the source text to OpenAI. Study questions and tutoring send the selected saved material needed for the request. Signed-in lessons synchronize to the account database. Enabling private audio saving uploads captured segments for later playback; importing a PDF stores the selected source file. These files are separate from a JSON text backup.
Web biography lookup
The explicit person-lookup form sends the person’s name and subject for live web research. It does not send your private transcript. Results are labeled as external references, so they cannot be mistaken for something your instructor said.
Make a deliberate choice before class
Check your school and instructor’s recording rules. Avoid capturing unnecessary private conversation. Read the transcript before requesting notes if you need to remove sensitive details. Do not assume a local mode automatically creates institutional approval or a compliance certification.
Use the privacy and data-flow page and export and deletion guide to understand the current controls. LoreDrop does not present itself as a substitute for your institution’s approved recording or accommodation process.
